You ever have those weekends? No major outings. No big errands to run. No pressing chores to be done. Enough food to last the entire weekend (well... almost. We made it until Sunday night). Definitely enough milk to last the entire weekend. No interesting sporting events on (yesssss).
Seriously, it was the best weekend. I think half the battle is getting up at a reasonable time (and going to bed at a reasonable time) so you can get two excellent nights of sleep and two days that are long enough to actually feel like The Weekend instead of Two Weekend Afternoons. Since we have blackout shades that would trick us into sleeping until lunchtime, I set my alarm. And then I open the blinds all the way so Jeff wakes up. Heh, so mean. We even went to the gym both mornings to justify eating lots of delicious food. You know, like, these migas two days a row. And this apple-blueberry crisp for breakfast.
Migas = so good. I can't wait to go to Texas for my sister's graduation so I can eat them without having to prepare them myself. Although, they are really easy so you should make them soon.
It was in the high 60s and perfectly perfectly sunny all weekend. I'm sure you'll forgive me for not taking any pictures because I was busy enjoying it. Despite the sun, Jeff managed to get a couple hours of studying in each day (next test is June 23rd for those who are interested).
What's with the headphones Jeff?? Do I annoy you while you study or something? I'm not sure he's even listening to music, to be honest. I always forget he has them on and end up standing at the sink, blathering to NO ONE. Sometimes, he'll notice my mouth is moving and very kindly remove one earphone at which point I feel a bit silly interrupting his studying to tell him about the funny pigeon outside who is trying to... drink water... out of the... wait, sorry, ignore me.
We're still avoiding the park with the dogs because Plato can't participate in the rough-housing that generally occurs there. That gave us a good excuse to take a couple of long walks around the 'hood. I can't even tell you how much better everything looks when the houses aren't surrounded by dead, withered plants. I've only been here during the winter so to see everything turn green is quite nice.
I finally got past the "planning" stage of gardening and ordered some (many) plants online yesterday. Online plant shopping is the best! Garden centres are intimidating. I don't know enough about gardening to find an alternative to a certain plant on my list if the store doesn't have it. I can see myself wandering around for hours looking for things on my list. Plus, there are all those attractive and distracting displays trying to trick you into buying something that ISN'T ON THE LIST. It's like grocery shopping, only 1000x worse. The last thing I want is for a plant to wither in the back of the fridge (aka die a slow and terrible death before my eyes) because it wasn't on the list, so I didn't know a thing about it, so I planted it in the shade instead of the dang sun. Gardening can be heartbreaking, people. The best defense is a good offense, right? Hence, The Plan. If you never see another picture of the garden, you'll know why.
Speaking of fridges, LOOK AT OURS.
....moving on.
We finished the weekend in the best possible way - a mini marathon of the last 3 episodes of Twin Peaks, Season 1. No description can really do it justice - basically, it's a super cool show. I'm a little in awe of the density of attractive people supposedly living in small town Washington, but I won't complain.
Speaking of good shows, we are knee-deep in a bunch of them right now (some new, some old favorites) - Boardwalk Empire, Battlestar Galactica, Arrested Development, and Modern Family, with a little Mad Men, Friends, and Gossip Girl thrown in. HBO's "Game of Thrones" starts next week (the 17th in the US, I believe, and the 18th here) and Jeff and I are psyched, to say the least. Hopefully, now that the show is about to air, the author will be less distracted and, I don't know, RELEASE THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES?!?!?! The last book was released 6 flipping years ago and George has been teasing us ever since.
