Plato came home from the vet yesterday happy and healthy, if not a little groggy. Groggy Plato is soooooo cute. Unfortunately, it wore off by the time Jeff came home. If there is anyone who likes a little groggy Plato more than me - it's Jeff. If I was forced to come up with an interior monologue for groggy Plato it would probably sound very similar to that Youtube video of the kid after the dentist. I could tell by the way Plato was looking (with eyes half open) around the house that very little of it was familiar. Also, he was falling asleep sitting up, before snorting and waking up suddenly.
He has a shaved patch of skin the size of my hand on the back of his neck with about 3 inches of extremely primitive looking stitches. Don't worry - no pictures. I think it is a little uncomfortable for him because it is in a place that moves a lot. We are trying to keep him as quiet as possible for the next couple days. That is proving rather difficult, not because of Plato, but because of Sascha... she wants to play, damnit. We spent most of the day in the yard and I felt like a big meanie because I was scolding her every time she tried to get a wrestling match going with him. Ear-gnawing is wayyyy to close to the stitches, I'm afraid.
Sascha and I had good time while Plato was at the vet - mainly consisting of her riding shotgun (she takes it very seriously) while I ran errands.
Plato was very upset when he first got back from the vet because he couldn't lay down comfortably with the stitches. A pillow seemed to help - seriously, it did! I'm talking to you Jeff. I also like it when dogs use pillows like humans.
While we enjoyed the sunshine today, I gave the dogs a very vigorous brushing because they have been shedding like crazy lately. Jeff also pets them way too hard/often leaving bunches of hair everywhere. He tries to camouflage this by carefully collecting the hair and putting it back on the dog. Like I'm an idiot who won't notice.
I took all the dog hair from the brush and wedged it in the small trellis on the garage. Birds collect it to make their nests! I love seeing tiny little birds hopping around with gigantic beak-fuls of Sascha's undercoat. Once we found a bird's nest near our condo in Seattle that was made up almost entirely of Plato and Sascha hair. We have a very active wild bird population here so I imagine it will be snapped up pretty quickly. I'm not crazy, I swear.
